MAINTAINING MOTIVATION WITH BIG PROJECTS

Today, I’m going to chat about maintaining motivation for working on bigger projects. As I said, Seek took over two years to complete. Sticking with a project can be really hard. I never thought of ditching Seek and not finishing it, but that doesn’t mean it was always smooth driving. The guest post on Liz’s blog shows some tips of how I found inspiration while working on my novel. Now, I’ll talk about motivation, too!

Every storyteller has their own voice. God has a way for each of us to tell a story, and that will never be the same way for another person. We shouldn’t strive to be like others. We should strive to do what God wills us to do. This was a huge lesson for me as I wrote Seek because it set me free! My biggest motivational drive comes from God. If I felt myself getting sidetracked, I’d pray and God would help me get back on track. I motivated myself with the knowledge that God had a will for me and I had to keep going, no matter what.

I see so many writers say read fiction to build your storytelling skills, but I also think movies can be just as insightful. Why? Because if you’re a visual person (or lack a whole lot of reading time), you can learn things from movies. Of course, Hollywood is often silly, so take things with a grain of salt. But for storytelling and character development, what do you like to see in a movie? How can you apply that to a piece of writing? It can be helpful to see a story play out before your eyes on screen, y’all!

And another thing that kept me going through it all was the outcome. What is the outcome of finishing a big project dear to your heart? For me, it is being able to share a story that I pray will help others. in fact, I’ve already had people tell me how much they could relate to the characters and situations. It hit me deep!

To hold a final copy of a book I poured my heart into is enough to make me trudge through editing. To be able to tell others about my book and see their faces light up is so cool, guys. There’s so much joy to be spread by the written word. So many messages to share. And my motivation is being a Light for Jesus, no matter what project I’m working on. Sometimes, the biggest motivation comes from something small.

Hanukkah has been great! We haven’t tried any of the traditional foods yet, partly because my food allergies make it harder to find recipes. However, we are planning on making latkes for sure sometime during Hanukkah! 🙂
        How has your Hanukkah been?

Awesome!! ♥ Yeah, we’ll be changing our diet in 2019, so it’s gonna be strange here…

We don’t have candles. *cries* Our Menorah is a weird size so we can’t find any candles YET. xD
