Greetings, y’all! Today I’ll be sharing what my writing process is like, and how The Thief, The Damsel, And The Dragon came to be (one of my quickest finished works to date!). As y’all know, TT,TD,TD started when I sat down with the intentions of throwing together a story idea one morning over coffee. Usually, my story ideas come on bursts of inspiration, or like Seek and JUMP, God gives me dreams. But TT,TD,TD was brainstormed and I decided ‘hey! I’m gonna take these three things, ‘thief‘, ‘damsel‘, and ‘dragon‘… and do something kind of unexpected’.

I had the novella plotted and witten in a week. I didn’t write a second draft (like I’ve done for my novels) — the first draft was the only one. I did add and edit things, of course! It took about two months to edit (on and off), with the help of betas, as well as finishing the covers, and hire a friend to format it.

The writing itself is the fastest I’ve ever finished a project, so I was tickled pink by that! The plotting was really fun (and not so bad as, say, Seek, where I want to slam my head against a wall. :P), and it was cool to plot with my family. My sis, Tory, actually helped me decide on a crucial plot part. *high five for Tory*

My brainstorming isn’t… neat. I’m the person folks call a ‘plantser’. I plot, yes, with my messy outlines and plot points. But I also don’t really do things scene-by-scene, every-detail-is-written-down. I see folks with great handwriting and categorized notes in some nice notebook — ha. Nope. My notebook is random, full of chicken scratch (if I write too slow for nice handwriting, I forget what I’m writing, y’all!), and I’ll have bits and pieces of the actual outline, over and over again. And random character notes. And if I hear a song and thing ‘OH THIS IS *insert character*, I jot that down on a page. It’s a bit crazy but it works. And I use pretty colored inks, so that makes it wonderful! 😛

In the end, every way of writing is unique, and that’s what is amazing! =D And there’s always things to learn and tweak as we grow as writers and as children of God.
