AUTHOR INTERVIEW | KAITLYN KRISPENSE

Good evening, folks! I hope you’re having a great day–mine has been wild, haha. I’m excited to be interviewing my fellow Indie author and dear friend, Kaitlyn Krispense! Let’s get right to it!

Welcome to my nook, Kaitlyn! Can you tell us a few facts about yourself?

Thank you, Angela! To give you a few facts about myself, I’m first of all a born-again believer in Christ, and I learn new things about Him every day. I’m a farmer’s daughter, and combined with growing up with five siblings, life has always been far from dull! Reading is my No.1 hobby, but when I’m not doing that, I’m probably writing, crocheting, playing piano (& singing with the radio) or watching Flashpoint (current fave) during my free time.

Your debut novel, Beloved, is a great piece. What was the hardest but most rewarding part about writing it?

Aw, thank you! The hardest but most rewarding…hmm. Probably the editing, haha! Editing is always super intimidating for me, but what you put into your book is what you’re going to get out. I’m SO glad that I finally buckled down and did it.

What do you hope your readers take away after reading Beloved?

You are loved. Beyond what you can imagine. My Savior? He died for you. For me. For everyone. If we’ll repent and accept it.

There is hope. There is ALWAYS hope. Jesus…Jesus is hope.

You never know how your actions and words may affect others. Never forget to lend a smile, to brighten someone’s world. Because sometimes the brightest smiles hide the deepest scars.

What genre do you most enjoy reading AND writing?

Reading, I enjoy several! I love historical (especially set in the late-1800s and mid-1900s), I love contemporary, I love suspense/thrillers (though I am cautious about the ones I pick up), I love mysteries, and I love a good fantasy.

Writing? I tried a historical once…*cackles* emphasis on the word TRIED. It was a western and a good experience, and I still love to write westerns…but I think I most enjoy writing contemporary.

What is one thing you wish you could’ve told yourself before joining the Indie community?

Marketing is harder than you think; plan ahead and don’t be afraid to connect with other indie authors! The indie world (at least the one I’m a part of) is super uplifting and encouraging. Get connected, don’t be afraid to ask for help/advice, and always reciprocate when the opportunity arises.

Who inspired you to begin writing?

Susan K. Marlow…in a roundabout way. As author of the Circle C and Goldtown books (some of my childhood favorites!), she holds fan fiction contests. I entered a piece one year, won honorable mention, and I’ve loved writing ever since.

What is one of your biggest writing dreams?

Oh goodness…I’ve thought so hard on this question and still don’t know the answer, haha! I suppose I never really thought that my writing would get very far…certainly not published! I’d say, though that one of my biggest dreams would be that I’d actually get a couple dozen books published. And that God would speak to others through me, using my stories.

What can readers expect from you next? Any new release plans?

As of now, no release plans in the near future. I finished writing my second novel this year durning Camp NaNo (April), and when at first I thought it’d be my next published book…that story has actually gotten put on hold for now. I’ve got a couple of other WIPs, but no plans for publishing anytime soon. 🙂

What an amazing writer, am I right? I adored her novel Beloved, so if you want a sweet, encouraging read this summer, check it out!

Thanks for joining, y’all, and be sure to give Kaitlyn a follow. She’s a lovely person and I’m looking forward to her new projects… *hint hint*

God bless,
Angela
