AUTHOR INTERVIEW | NAOMI KENYON, YA AUTHOR

I did an author interview swap with Naomi Kenyon! Here is my interview with Naomi. You can find her interview (I loved the questions) here!

Welcome to my blog, Naomi! Can you tell us a few things about yourself?

Why, thank you for having me! I am a 17-year-old YA Christian author who thoroughly enjoys food, singing, photography, and sometimes painting and acting. I was brought up with my seven brothers and three sisters, and we are all/were all homeschooled!

What is your debut novel, Like A Feather, about?

Like A Feather follows Penelope Rosewood, a young girl striving to be anything but different. But born with the ability to fly, it’s kind of hard not to be different. When Sam Caleb, a wanna be anything but average Joe, moves in next door, he’s instantly drawn to the girl with the secrets in her dark blue eyes. And when Sam walks in on Penelope in mid-air, he realizes that it’s a lot more than he bargained for. Through Penny and Sam’s blossoming friendship, questionable things start happening. There’s something darker going on. But in order to find answers they must hear the truths they never wanted to hear.

You can follow me on any of my social medias so you don’t miss the release of Like A Feather! I’m on Instagram, Facebook, and Youtube.

What inspired you to write Like A Feather?

I had always wanted to depict flying. Peter Pan was my favorite fairy tale, and I would read every single book related to him.

Besides that, I always remember having trouble reading books in the YA section. Holy moly, why can’t there be a decent book for a young adult?! I always had to stop reading because most would become inappropriate. A good book does not have to be raunchy!

What did you enjoy most about writing Like A Feather? What was the hardest part about writing it?

What I enjoyed the most was probably writing the cute little scenes with Sam and Penny, and the emotional scenes.

The hardest part was probably describing the flying! Describing things is definitely not my strong suit!

What has been the most exciting part of self-publishing?

HOLDING MY BOOK!!!!! That was such an amazing and weird moment! And to be able to flip through the pages and just see it all together? momento perfetto!!

What has surprised you about the self-publishing journey so far?

How much work goes into it! Self-publishing is hard! Rewarding (because you have control over everything) but hard!

Also, I really enjoyed the technical side of it! (Formatting, and making the cover, although they did get frustrating at times!)

And I loved getting feedback from the betas! They are literally the best!

How do you find motivation to write?

Getting this book done was all God. I tried to pray every time I was about to write. I am someone who has a very short attention span, and it’s a miracle that I got it done!

What authors inspired you as a beginning writer?

Beverly Lewis. I went to her book signing and she spoke about writer’s block and how to get through it. Also, Millie Florence. She’s one of the first young authors I stumbled upon. It was the first time I realized that there were other writers out there like me. That I could get this story done!

If you could enter one fictional world, which world would you choose?

Neverland, hands down!

Are you working on any other projects right now? What can readers expect from you next?

There is a story that I was working on, and it kinda goes with Like A Feather. But I decided it was premature and not well developed at the moment. That’s on the back burner for now, but hopefully will come out in the future!

Right now I am working on a contemporary novel. I’ll be posting on Instagram soon, because I’m going to need followers’ help on this one! 😉
