HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY, Y’ALL! Take a moment to thank the Lord for our beautiful country and freedom — it’s never been free and it is not a right we’re entitled to. It’s something we have to fight for and never take for granted.
Speaking of heartfelt things, today we’ll be discussing the themes for The Thief, The Damsel, And The Dragon. When I wrote this novella, I didn’t want it to be all fluff — I didn’t want it to be just happy-feely stuff. I went into it with a few themes in mind that are dear to my heart.
Forgiveness. It’s a message I don’t think anyone can write about enough. It’s a huge part of the Bible (the Gospel, yo!). In this novella, I wanted to show how forgiveness from other people is important, but more importantly, we must repent to GOD. If our heart isn’t seeking God, our actions won’t be pleasing to Him (or anyone else, really!). And, also, we cannot work to earn God’s forgiveness! It is a gift and we must repent — not work or fingers bloody to deserve it. We’ll never deserve His mercy. Which is why His mercy is so incredible!
Relationship love, but more conservative. This book shows God’s love for all of us (of course) and His mercy… And it has a romantic couple. I wanted to Ed and Lucy’s relationship to be a bit less ‘modern’. Both are adults and work hard at jobs — not chasing around for lovers and acting like kids. I wrote this novella to show a couple can only actually be a couple and have a future together if the relationship is built on GOD’s foundation. I fully believe in soulmates — but every relationship needs the Lord! The Bible tells us what love is (example, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7) and God is always the center and focus of that love, the covering, the guide. So, in TT,TD,TD, I had two people love each other, but put God first, and before they could pursue each other, they had to seek the Lord before all else.
Those are the two major themes in this novella, among other smaller ones. You’ll have to read the book to see the others for yourself. 😉 ALSO, I got my proofcopy a day or so ago, sent the review in for tweaking, and so… YEP! I’m happy with how it turned out!
